From 19 to 21 May 2023 at the Castle of Grinzane Cavour was held the final chapter of the highest training course on Langhe wines and the election of the first official ambassadors of Langhe.

After the success of the first five editions of level one and after the launch of the European spin-off, which last autumn brought a taste of the Academy to various European cities, on May 21, 2023 with the II level course, the first cycle of high training of the Barolo & Barbaresco Academy was successfully completed.

The initiative, promoted and organized by the Consorzio di Tutela Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe e Dogliani together with Strada del Barolo and great wines of Langa is aimed at trainers, brand managers, journalists and buyers with the aim of creating a global network of ambassadors of Langhe.

117 students, from 20 different countries, took part in the first five editions of level one in person and 21 students registered for the online edition: a valuable community of operators, professionals and expert connoisseurs of Langhe wines. Fifteen students were the first to complete the exclusive training achieving the title of Langhe Wines Ambassador – Level 2.

The course ended with a challenging test, divided into 60 multiple-choice questions, and a final dissertation on the impact of climate change on Langhe wines: thanks to this further selection process, the commission identified three Langhe Wines Ambassadors whose final papers were distinguished by a particular level of detailed study, technical-scientific preparation and communicative style: Elena Barattini (Great Britain), Chieko Hirano (Italy/Japan) and Serge Leveque (France/Canada/Italy) The three will now be able to be involved in official activities of the Consorzio di Tutela Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe e Dogliani and Strada del Barolo e grandi vini di Langa in their countries of origin and will be guests at the edition of Grandi Langhe 2024.

The statement of Matteo Ascheri, President of Consorzio di Tutela Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe e Dogliani“After five editions of the first level, with the second level of the Academy, we have given the opportunity to professionals in the sector to specialize further on our denominations and our territory. It is essential for us, as a Consortium, to tell with our voice that it is that of a community, the unique peculiarities and the history of an area that has always had a wine-making vocation. We therefore believe that the authority of the three selected Langhe Wines Ambassadors will help us to strengthen this communication throughout the world, while collaborating on our activities and proposing new ideas to better promote this presentation. Transmitting knowledge and informing about who we are and what we would like to become further remains one of our priorities and with the Langhe Wines Ambassadors we are able to further enhance this message.”

“We are really proud to have completed the first cycle of this ambitious project that we have been working on for several years – commented Lorenzo Olivero, President of Strada del Barolo – I would like to congratulate the Langhe Wines Ambassadors who have demonstrated a deep knowledge of our territory and our wines, shown through really excellent papers. Thanks to the work of the teachers, the pride of our courses, we have created a community of professionals and experts from all over the world, increasingly prepared and attentive to the world of Langhe wines. Obviously, I am very proud to appoint, together with President Ascheri, the first three official ambassadors, but I am sure that every student will be an engine of dissemination and promotion of our territory. Congratulations to everyone and good work to our Langhe Wines Ambassadors!”

Meanwhile, the Barolo & Barbaresco Academy advanced training course does not stop and registrations are already open for the sixth edition of the first level, scheduled from 26 to 28 January 2024, around the same time as the Grandi Langhe 2024, while the dates of the second level module will be announced shortly.
